Nowadays, more and more people are turning to papercraft to relax, unwind, and create eye-catching decorations — all with their own two hands!

Paper crafting unleashes your creativity and brings out your inner artist. And if you’re a cat lover too, why not make a papercraft based on your favorite pet?

Today, we’ll try our hand at a Munchkin Kitty Cat Papercraft design. Let’s get started!

What Is a Munchkin Kitty or El Gato?

Munchkin kitties are often referred to as the feline version of the sausage dog. These cute cats have long bodies resembling a sausage, and teeny-tiny legs.

So, why are they called Munchkins? Because they’re named after the munchkin people in The Wizard of Oz!

If you’ve ever been around one, you may have noticed it loves standing upright on its hind legs.

This cute behavior gives it the passing appearance of a meerkat and serves as the inspiration behind El Gato, a viral cat meme.

Papercraft 1: Munchkin Kitty (El Gato) Paperized

The easiest way to make one is with a ready-made kit. Once you have that, start by cutting out the separate components and folding over the tabs. Then, begin carefully adding glue to the tabs to secure your Munchkin kitty into shape.

Be sure to start with your kitty’s face for the best results. You’ll then assemble the cat’s body to support the face, before adding the limbs and the stand.

Now, your Munchkin kitty craft is ready for all to see!

5 Tools Needed to Build a Munchkin Cat

If you want to DIY your own paper crafts, you’ll need the following:

  1. Cricut device/machine. Forget scissors. If you want to do the job right, a Cricut machine is your best bet. Not only do they cut paper but they’re also great for vinyl, card, and iron-on transfers!
  2. Cardstock paper (150 GSM or more). To get the best folding and bending power without turning your paper into a flimsy mess, you’ll want to aim for at least 150 GSM weighted paper.
  3. Scorer or bone folder. To create those clean, crisp, and all-important sharp edges, you’ll need a reliable score or bone folder.
  4. Tacky glue. A glue that lasts is one of the most important ingredients when creating your next paper masterpiece! For an adhesive that lasts long, is safe, and won’t break the bank, Aleene’s Tacky Glue has you covered.
  5. Actual design files that you load into the Cricut device. An easy-to-follow and high-quality design file you can load straight into your Cricut is a must for all papercraft enthusiasts!

You can buy all of these essential papercraft supplies right here at our online store.
